Dumfries Blues Netball Club sponsored by Armstrong Watson Financial Advisors and Accountants were in action in the first game of the season of the Carlisle League. The club from Dumfries were promoted as champions of Division 2, but faced a much sterner test in the top league.
Dumfries were out of the blocks quick and started the scoring with excellent play throughout mid court, and the Blues were able to take a 2 goal lead into the second quarter. The line up remained the same for the second period with Alison Groat (WD), Paula Craven (C) and Karen Reed (WA) ensuring possession was retained, but it was Sands who came out on top throughout the quarter reducing Dumfries’ lead to just 1 goal.
The second half saw some changes on court, Dumfries unfortunately lost some control on the game as Sands experience began to show, and despite some solid defending by Nicola Parkinson (GK) and Emma Pool (GD) it was Sands who took a lead of 3 points into the final quarter. Dumfries line up remained unchanged for the final quarter with Bethany Hutton (WA) and Gillian McLeod(GS) looking to reclaim the composure which was there in the first half. This happened as Dumfries slowly clawed back the deficit. The scores became tied and opportunities for both sides to score the decisive goal came and went and the match ended in a draw 27 -27.
This was a fair result and one which leaves Dumfries undefeated and builds confidence for the next match in 3 weeks against Meerkats of Carlisle. Nicola Parkinson (GK) was Dumfries player of the match.
