Dumfries Blues Netball Club is cock-a-hoop after scoring a funding windfall recently. The club received a £6,000 boost from the ‘Awards For All’. Now the club will be extending opportunities to take part in netball far and wide, thanks for the cash injection.
To get more people joining in netball, the Dumfries Blues have created a campaign called ‘Net, Set, Go’ – it has 3 different parts to it, each aimed at a different target audience:
• Start in Netball – a programme of coaching session delivered in primary and secondary schools,
• Back to Netball – recreational netball from women and girls aged 16 plus
• Stay in Netball which will look at joining the club and improving and developing the skills of players, young and old.
The campaign is open to everyone, so it doesn’t matter whether you have never tried the sport before or want to develop your netball skills, everyone come along and take part. ‘Net, Set, Go’ will be launching May 2014.
The progamme has also received a boost by being recognised as a Legacy programme aligned to the Commonwealth Games.
Gillian McLeod, Club Chairperson said “’Net, Set, Go’ is an ambitious project and we hope to announce and promote the new sessions in the very near future. Netball is a great sport, and we believe the time is right to deliver as the Commonwealth Games will provide opportunities for everyone to see our sport in a positive way and hopefully encourage others to come and give it a try.”
If anyone is interested in netball or would like some more information, then please contact the club on Dumfriesblues@outlook.com, alternatively if you are ready now then please visit the club at DG One on Mondays from 6pm.
